Featured Onyx Rose | LaShon

OR: How is the natural hair scene where you're from?
LaShon: Major. I'm from the greater Los Angeles area, and the natural hair scene is definitely growing. There is not a day that goes by that I don't see a fellow natural. Woot woot!

OR: Random fun fact about yourself?
LaShon: When I'm passionate about something, I'm all over it, so it's not any different with natural hair. Every day I do either blog, read or watch natural hair videos.

OR: What inspired you to go natural?
LaShon: Chris Rock's "Good Hair". When I saw what that chemical did to that Coke can I was done.

OR: What issues do you have with your hair, and how do you effectively deal with them?
LaShon: Like most, retaining moisture, but anytime it starts to feel dry I just wet, seal and braid up at night, and the next morning I'm good to go.

OR: What's one natural hair myth you wish would die?
LaShon: Ugh, that only people with "good hair" can go natural. The hair that grows out of your hair is good hair you just have to treat it right.

OR: In your opinion, is having natural hair a trend? Is it a movement?
LaShon: Natural hair is a movement that will continue to grow, especially with the younger generations because the secret is out, you don't have to be relaxed to be considered beautiful.

OR: Spill the beans...tell us your top 3 natural hair tips.
LaShon:
1. I usually only comb through / detangle my hair once a week.
2. I use real satin bonnets and pillowcases (those $3 ones in the store are not real or quality satin), and 3. I always pre-poo before I wash

OR: What advice do you have for those thinking about transitioning?
LaShon: Do it! Take in as much information as you can and enlist support, either in-person or online, before you take the plunge. You're going to have good and bad days and if you get burned out, find a protective style that will give you a break.
